UPSTATE NEW YORK

SYRACUSE FORECAST

Summary:

The period from November through March will bring frequent swings in temperature. Overall, temperatures should average above normal, but the heart of the winter will be below normal, with above average snowfall.. Heavy lake snows in mid-November will be a harbinger of things to come, with big snowstorms in mid-December, early and mid-January, early February, and early March. Although most of the relatively mild temperatures in the winter season will occur early, a January thaw will bring some relief fr om the cold waves that serve as its bookends.

Chilly weather will continue well into spring, with April and May averaging two degrees below normal. A big snowstorm may serve as nature's April Fools joke, but snow melts quickly in April. Overall, spring rain will be near normal, with the heaviest ra in in the west.

The summer, overall, will be near average in temperature. A brief June heat and humidity in mid-July and early August. Late August and early September will be a different story, with heavy rain and cool temperatures. The remainder of the early autumn w ill feature well above normal temperatures, with long sunny intervals. Late September and October, in particular, are expected to be especially mild, with temperatures averaging 6 degrees above normal. Heavy rains in mid-September and mid- and late Octo ber will separate the sunny, pleasant spells. Oh well, at least it's not snow.
