Disability Resources
Below are some Disability-Related sites that we think are of special interest. We
have chosen to focus on those sites which emphasize self-advocacy, inclusion, and
civil rights.
- Axis Disability Rights
Website - This site contains some very good articles on inclusion and
disability, as well as other progressive resources. The logo on their
opening page is a must-see!
- Center on Human Policy -
The CHP "is a Syracuse University based policy, research, and advocacy
organization involved in the national movement to insure the rights of
people with disabilities." The site offers articles, resource guides and
other materials covering subjects such as school inclusion, housing,
self-advocacy and other topics affecting the lives of people with
disabilities.
- Inclusion Press Home Page -
"Inclusion Press is a small press striving to produce readable,
accessible, user-friendly books and resources about full inclusion in
school, work, and community."
- International
Coalition on Abuse & Disability - From the University of Alberta, a
valuable resource regarding the issues surrounding abuse and disability.
- Gentle Teaching
Homepage - Gentle Teaching is a nonviolent approach for educating people
with labels of mental retardation, including those regarded as having
dangerous and difficult behaviors.
- Ability
Network Magazine (gopher) - A disability-oriented magazine with articles
authored, for the most part, by people with disabilities.
- Mainstream Magazine -
Online version of the well-known disability magazine.
- New Mobility Magazine -
"Disability is news, art, politics, humor, healing, recreation, travel,
show-biz and rehab-biz, and that's what we do."
- ADA &
Disability Information - This site from Iowa State has a great set of
links to ADA information on the web as well as other disability-related
resources.
- Uppity
DisAbility Internet Resources - "Socially progressive site for like
minded disAbled people."
- The Arc Homepage - This
is a
very large and developing site. It offers an impressive assortment of
articles, position papers, links, legislative alerts and more.
- Evan Kemp Associates Long-time
disability rights advocate Evan Kemp has set up a commercial site that
offers information on products, news items and has possibly the largest
set of links to disability-related sites on the web.
