A Northeastern University sociologist and a researcher from the Massachusetts SPCA recently reported that of 153 animal abusers involved in 400 cases whose behavior they tracked for 10 years, 70 percent committed crimes against humans; 38 percent committed "violent" crimes against humans. The crimes against animals ususally preceded the offenders' crimes against humans. Significantly, only 15 percent of animal abuse offenses went to court, and only 8 percent of the perpetrators received jail sentences for their crimes against animals. __________________
