Railfanning :
Syracuse, Binghamton & New York Railroad 150th Anniversary:
 
Jamesville | An undisclosed location
Run by the CNYRHS
and the NYS&W Railroad, this railfan
excursion traveled between Binghamton and Syracuse the weekend of Octover
16-17. The trip featured#142, a locomotive that was built to American
standards by China's Tangshan Locomotive works in 1989, the SY 2-8-2 Mikado
was originally owned by the Essex Junction Railroad in Connecticut and
is now owned by the New York Susquehanna
& Western Technical & Historical Society.
Very impressive to watch and feel the earth shake as it went by. Chasing
the train was equally fun, especially seeing it through the (wet) fall
foliage and across fields while in a caravan of fellow train geeks (ferroequinologists)
chased.
Finger Lakes Live Steamers:
Pictures were taken during the 2004 Summer and Fall open houses.
The Finger
Lakes Live Steamers, in Marengo, NY, host two open houses during the
year which are not to be missed. This is a great family event.
Next year's events will be June 25 & 26, and September
24 & 25, 2005.
Waterville, Wiscasset & Farmington Railway Museum:
 The
Wiscasset, Waterville, and Farmington
Railway was a two-foot gauge common carrier railroad that operated
in the early part of the 1900's, up until 1933 when the railroad ceased
operations. The line ran from Wiscasset in the south, to Albion and Winslow
in the north. The Museum is located at the site of the old Sheepscot station,
with mainline track running north from Cross Road, on the original roadbed.
They are laying track like there's no tomorrow, and have
reached the next station in Alna Center which is being recreated. They'll
also have a run-around so that they can finally run with the engine in
the front both ways. Another fantastic place for the whole family.
Boothbay Railway Village:
The Boothbay Railway
Village in Boothbay, Maine is one of our favorite places to be. In
addition to riding the little German-built Henschel
tank engines, they also offer an annual steamcourse,
and have a model railroad layout that is under construction, and a fantastic
staff.
