INTERNATIONAL MASK AND PUPPET MUSEUM

OPEN HAND THEATER founded the INTERNATIONAL MASK AND PUPPET MUSEUM in 1992 as a "travelling museum" with funding from the Community Foundation and the New York State Council on the Arts. The Museum has rapidly grown into an exciting program that engages the imagination and hands of children in learning about culture and history through the magic of mask and puppet theater. Beginning in September 1999, Open Hand will also be offering hands-on learning experiences at our new home in The Castle

When presented within the context of traditional performances, mask and puppet theater provides a dynamic window into the cultures which created them. There is a tremendous need for creative ways for children to learn about a nd value diverse cultures and history.
