Habitat

Rocky clearings. Also occurs in woods after fire.

Distribution

 

Most frequent in Allegheny Mountains. This specimen was found in Central NY. Rare in the Chicago region.

Morphology

Delicate, biennial vine to 10'. Leaves blue-green, pinnate compound; leaflets with 3 deeply cut lobes. Flowers pink, petals 4 (2 inner, 2 outer), stamens 6, sepals 2, corollas spongy.

Notes

Flowers July to September

Wetland indicator: Upland

An attractive vine related to Corydalis.
