I know there is a standard method for
showing how to pronounce sounds but
I'm not going to use it here. Some
day ,when I figure out how to do
it, I'll come back here and change
this over to that method
I'll use examples from the English
when there are such.When there is no
English example I'll do the best I
can to describe it to you.
There is no variation in the pronunciation
of these letters. Each symbol, or combination
of symbols, has only one sound.
vowels
a- the vowel sound in the word 'father'
ae-the vowel sound in the word 'say'
au- the vowel sound in the word 'saw'
e- the vowel sound in the word 'bet'
i- the vowel sound in the word 'see'
o- the vowel sound in the word 'no'
oo-the vowel sound in the word 'soon'
u- the vowel sound in the word 'but'
w- the vowel sound in the word 'look'
y- the vowel sound in the word 'sit'
The three vowel sounds that are
represented by a two letter combination
may have to be separated from a preceding
or,following vowel for clarity. When this
is needed, a full colon is used to separate
the two vowel sounds from each other
Consonants
b- like the first letter in the word 'butter'
c- Always like the 'ch'in church
d- like the 'd' in 'Duke'
dh-the sound if 'th' in 'this' or 'that'
f- as in 'father'
g- always hard 'g' as in guild
h- the 'h' of hope.
j- a glide. the sound of 'y'in you. no vowel value.
avoid making any 'ee' sound
k- the sound of 'k' in 'kink'.
l- the sound of 'l' in look.
m- the sound of 'm' in mother.
'm' nasalizes the vowels that immediately
precede it when, 'm' is followed immediately
by 'l' or 'r'
n- the sound of 'n'in no
ng-the sound of 'ng'in sing.never a hard g sound
this sound can appear initially in words
p- the sound of 'p' in pop
r- A rolled 'r'
s- the sound of 's' in sing
t- the sound of 't' in tough
th-the sound of 'th' in think
v- the sound of 'v' in victory
x- the sound of 'sh' in ship
z- the sound of 'z' in zipper
zh-the sound of 's' in pleasur
stress
Stress is always penultimate, meaning, the second
to the last vowel receives the stress.
