15 may 99: aaaaaagh! just wanted to say that i suck! I'm planning
a site revamp, have planned one for some time. unfortunately, school
is taking more of my time than i imagined. but rest assured, figgy is
still in the house!
| THE LATEST FIGGY-NEWS : | Two more months till "Jewels For Sophia"! |
House of Figgy hovers here for you on that slow train to hell, the
"World Wide Web." Focusing on the live aspect of singer/songwriter Robyn
Hitchcock, House of Figgy will provide you once every two years with a
favorite photo,
song, live tape, and story.
Launch Magazine: Robyn and Jonathan Demme are featured in the latest issue of Launch CD-ROM magazine (the issue with Shirley Manson from Garbage on the cover). The multimedia piece features Jonathan and Robyn musing about the film, and the highlight is a video clip of Robyn playing "Cheese Alarm". If anyone knows how to extract these video clips (or even just the audio!) using a Mac, let me know. The CD-ROM is in Macromedia Director format.
Storefront Hitchcock, the concert film of Robyn directed by Jonathan Demme, will not see a general release, thanks to huge ignoramus conglomerate MGM pictures. If you would like to change this, write to MGM and let them know how you feel.
Meanwhile, if you live in NYC, you can go see "Storefront" at Film Forum, at least for a few more days. And if you live in the UK, the film is currently making the rounds there, with Robyn hosting and at times answering questions.
The official website is up! robynhitchcock.com is the URL, and the site features great stuff like pictures, sketches, and paintings that you won't find on any other site. Drop by there immediately.
Robyn is featured on the new Grant Lee Buffalo CD entitled "Jubilee", which was released on June 12th. He plays harmonica on one track, and sings backing vocals on another. Go buy it!!

Thanks to the Reichstein sisters for sending me this and many other pics from Robyn's appearance at the SxSW conference in Austin, TX March 1998. This pic finds the Storefront Hitchcock gang reunited! (L to R: Deni Bonet, Tim Keegan, Robyn Hitchcock)

I Feel Beautiful (excerpt)
Taken from a gig at Club Largo in Los Angeles, Nov 1997

I collect tapes of live shows. It's what I do. It is my hobby. There are some really good shows out there floating around in the underground world of tape trading. This section attempts to point you to some noteworthy shows in order that you ma y seek them out and gain wisdom thereby.
Stay tuned.

This month's soundbite is NOT a story at all, but a bonus song!! It is a cover Robyn played during almost every set of his recent mini-tour: Joan Baez's Silver Dagger. This version was taken from my tape of the Portland, OR show on June 25, 1998.
Note: this soundclip is about twice as long as the ones usually found on here. So be prepared to wait a bit to hear it.
