Personal
Communication: The cellphone
Every day, more people are carrying electronics in their pockets
to help them get through the day. The cellphone has become a part
of daily life. Many treat it as a necessity in their daily routine.
Some use them only as often as they would a regular phone. They
may just have them for emergency purpose or because they travel
and are away from home a lot. These are viable reasons to have a
cellphone or pager. However, there are many who spend countles hours
talking to people who may be within walking distance of each other.
It has become a necessity for some to do business over the phone
while driving ebcasue they dont' ahve time to handle everything
in the office or in person. Why does it all have to be done so quickly?
Isn't physical contact still important? Instead of a handshake,
meetings are done by faceless voices talking between plastic. The
interaction of the cellphone with society has flourished in some
respects while taking away in many others. It is a strange site
to see two people driving a car with both on their cellphones. Neither
of them is fully in tune with their location. It also seems that
it shouldn't be necessary to be reminded by others to turn off your
cellphone when at the movies, in a classroom or during a theatrical
performance. If some didn't forget to charge their batteries, the
rings of different cellphones would be even more present in our
lives. Although, on our current track parents will eventually be
telling their 8 year old not to forget to brush their teeth and
to charge their phone before bed.
