Literature Circles
-
You and other students
in the class may pick out a book that you will all read at the same time.
-
There may be only
four members per book group.
-
After choosing your
book, your group will come up with a reading contract that everyone has
to sign. The contract states an agreement among the members of the group
how many pages that will be read before each café day.
-
At least once a week
there will be a café day. On these days, you will be allowed
to bring snacks, drinks, etc. to reading class while and your book group
members discuss your thoughts about the book you have chosen.
-
Each day, you will
be asked read your book as homework. You will also be given time during
SSR time to read to prepare your response sheet as preparation for
the book group discussion.
-
As you read the book,
you will complete the activities outlined below:
-
Reading response
sheets – You can use your responses as springboards for your "café
day" discussions.
-
A story map – You
will create a story elements map with your group that follows the format
taught in class.
-
Internet Activity
– You will visit sites on the Internet about your Newberry author.
