I am currently Associate Professor of Philosophy at Syracuse University. I've previously taught at Western Washington, Virginia Tech, and Illinois Wesleyan. My work has mainly been in ethics; I've published papers on intrinsic value, consequentialism, virtue, the evil of death, welfare theory, and endangered species. My book, Well-Being and Death, is in press at OUP, and I am working on editing the Oxford Handbook of Philosophy and Death (with Fred Feldman and Jens Johansson). I've taught courses in many areas of philosophy, but recently have mostly taught ethics courses of various sorts. I recently organized a conference on value, and I occasionally blog for the best ethics blog in the world. I also play in some 3.5-level tennis leagues, play the piano, coach Little League, and hang out with my family. That's it.
