About Kathleen Baum
Kathleen Baum is an actor, choreographer, director, and a teacher of theatre who works in the United States and in Europe.
She holds an MFA in Drama with an emphasis on movement from Syracuse University. She is on the
faculty of the Syracuse University Drama Department where she received the Meredith Award for
excellence in teaching for 2000-2001. In the fall of 2000 she also became a guest faculty member
of the National Theatre Institute at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, where she teaches Biomechanics.
At Syracuse she has taught movement (including Biomechanics), acting, play analysis and theatre history.
Since 1993 Kathleen has studied extensively with Gennadi Bogdanov, the leading Russian exponent of
the living tradition of Meyerhold’s work. She has been invited to work with Mr. Bogdanov in Russia,
Germany and Switzerland as well as hosting a workshop he taught at Syracuse in 1996. She has performed
work directed by Mr. Bogdanov internationally and has translated the text of Meyerhold and Biomechanics,
a video collaboration between Mr. Bogdanov and the Berlin Mime Center produced in 1995 from the German.
Since 1996 Kathleen has been exploring the symbiosis between Biomechanics and the Alexander Technique.
Kathleen’s workshops in Biomechanics include Yale University, Chisenhale Dance Space in London, Wake Forest
University, the Univesity of Connecticut, Austin Peay State University, Davidson College, Catawba College,
the University of Maryland, Franklin and Marshall, SUNY Binghamton, SUNY Genesee, York College of Pennsylvania,
Connecticut College, and Johns Hopkins. At the 2001 ATHE Conference Kathleen and Anne Brady of Binghamton
University gave a workshop presentation entitled: "Meyerhold and Linklater: Toward an Integrative Pedagogy
for the New Student."
