Join the ILMADAME Listserv!!

It's free and fun!

Here are some things you'll need to know as a member...

MISSION:

The ILMADAME listserv is a tool to aid family historians in their efforts to trace any and all people who have lived on Isle Madame, Richmond County, Nova Scotia, Canada.  Included are the villages of D'Escousse, Poulamon, Arichat, West Arichat, Petit de Grat and adjacent settlements.  There is also much interest in surrounding communities such as L'Ardoise and River Bourgeois.  Because of the histoy of the settlers and their backgrounds (many of Acadien heritage, from the Channel Islands or of Irish heritage) listserv members are also interested in information that will help shed light on the historical background of these families.  Please note that this listserv is not intended to be a tool for genealogical interests beyond the realm of Isle Madame and her peoples.

POSTING MESSAGES:

To post a message so that all members can read it, send it to: ILMADAME@listserv.syr.edu

Remember that all messages sent to the above address will be read by all subscribed members.  Messages regarding subscriptions or options must be sent to listserv@listserv.syr.edu.

SETTING YOUR OWN PARAMETERS:

To receive a copy of every message you yourself post, send a message to listserv@listserv.syr.edu and say SET ILMADAME REPRO.  That way you'll get copies of your own posted messages.

To receive only an acknowledgment that your message was sent and received send a message to listserv@listserv.syr.edu and say SET ILMADAME ACK NOREPRO.  You will get a confirmation of your posting, not the posting itself.

If you already have one of these settings and want no copy or acknowledgment, send a message to listserv@listserv.syr.edu and say SET ILMADAME NOACK NOREPRO.  You won't get anything back.

USING THE DIGEST OPTION:

If you don't want to have your mail beeping at you all day long you can elect to receive your messages in digest form.  That means that all messages from ILMADAME will be stored up and sent together as one mail message.  All the separate messages will be included along with an index of the message subjects.  To do this send a message to listserv@listserv.syr.edu and say SET ILMADAME DIGEST.  You will start receiving your messages grouped together.

To return to separate mail messages use SET ILMADAME MAIL.

USING THE NOMAIL OPTION WHEN ON VACATION [HOLIDAY]:

If you are going on vacation or are just too busy to check your mail, you can turn off your mail temporarily by sending a message to listserv@listserv.syr.edu and say SET ILMADAME NOMAIL.  That way your mailbox won't fill up while you're away and the listserv manager won't get error messages.  When you return send a similar message saying SET ILMADAME MAIL and you'll be back where you started.

FINDING OUT WHO IS ON THE LIST:

You do not have the option of seeing a listing of the names and e-mail addresses of all subscribers.  This is done so that the e-mail addresses may not be used by vendors.

LISTSERV ARCHIVES:

There is no archive maintained of past messages.

There are more options to be sure, but this should help clarify things somewhat.   Remember that all messages regarding your own membership must be sent to listserv@listserv.syr.edu.  Messages that you want to post to have others read go to ILMADAME@listserv.syr.edu
