| This census appeared in An
Island Parish: The 150th Anniversary of St. Hyacinth's, D'Escousse
[1995].
While not a government census like others I
have tanscribed or to which I have linked, this census does fill
in a gap between the census of 1838 and the census of 1861. Although
it does not give information on the members of a family, it does
give us insight into who was a resident of D'Escousse in 1846.
Remember that this is a parish census only. Non-Catholics
are excluded.
This census was conducted of members of St.
Hyacinth's parish, D'Escousse, Richmond County, Nova Scotia, Canada
in 1846 and lists dues paid by each family. Payment was in cash
or cod. Cash donations are listed in pounds sterling ($5 = £1)
or in quintals of cod fish (one quintal = 100 kilograms). This
census was found in an old account book at St Peter 's Parish,
Dartmouth.
